Songatech is a premier manufacturer and supplier of Spiral Concentrators, providing high-efficiency gravity separation solutions for chrome, iron ore, mineral sands, and coal fines. Our spirals are engineered to recover more mineral wealth through steady, low-energy separation and a design that ensures minimal product loss. On this page, we explain our spiral profiles and our capacity to supply and optimise separation circuits across South Africa.
High-Performance Spiral Catalogue
Separation on our spirals relies on precision-engineered laminar flow, using density and size differences to achieve a stable cut point. From our facility in Alrode, we distribute these modular systems to mining hubs in Steelpoort, Middelburg, Kathu, and the Northern Cape:
-
Chrome Spirals: Available in rougher, cleaner, and scavenger profiles. These are designed for high-capacity separation of 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm fractions, using adjustable splitters to sharpen grade and yield.
-
Iron Ore Spirals: Profiles specifically aimed at rejecting silica and alumina while holding Fe recovery. Ideal for rougher–cleaner circuits with middlings recycle.
-
Coal Fines Spirals: Focused on low SG (Specific Gravity) cuts for 0.15 mm to 2.0 mm coal fractions, delivering exceptional ash rejection and simple control.
-
Mineral Sands Spirals: Suited to ilmenite, rutile, and zircon pre-concentration, featuring multi-stage cleaner–scavenger layouts with integrated repulpers.

Optimisation and Quality Assurance
Songatech focuses on spiral profile and bank layout to ensure your circuit runs predictably with high recovery rates.
-
Stable Cut Points: Our adjustable splitters and wash-water rings allow for precision tuning during commissioning to protect your yield.
-
Low Energy Consumption: Gravity-fed separation requires simple water services and minimal power, lowering your overall operational costs.
-
Modular Scalability: Banks are designed to be modular, allowing you to scale production or retrofit units into existing plant footprints with ease.
-
Strict QA: Every unit undergoes dimensional checks on pitch and radius, alongside liner thickness verification and flow balance testing for distributors.
Selection Guide for South African Gravity Circuits
Correct selection depends on your feed size distribution and the density contrast of your valuable minerals:
-
Chrome Rougher (0.5 to 2.0 mm): High-recovery setup using double starts and 5 to 7 turns with wash water at Stage 2.
-
Chrome Cleaner (0.1 to 1.0 mm): Single or double start with reduced wash water and fine splitter apertures to upgrade concentrate grade.
-
Iron Ore Rougher (0.3 to 2.0 mm): 7-turn double start modules with moderate wash water to effectively reject silica.
-
Coal Fines (0.15 to 2.0 mm): Single start with low wash water and lower feed density for a sharp low SG split.
-
Scavenger Duty (0.3 to 2.0 mm): High-capacity profile with open splitters to capture “near-miss” particles from tailings streams.
