Songatech is a premier supplier of gas-atomised Ferrosilicon Powder, specifically engineered to give Dense Medium Separation (DMS) circuits a technical edge. Our spherical particles ensure stable density, sharp cut points, and high magnetic recovery rates. On this page, we explain our specialised ferrosilicon grades and our supply capabilities across the mineral processing sectors of South Africa.

High-Performance Ferrosilicon Catalogue

Ferrosilicon is the critical medium for high-density separations. Our gas-atomisation process creates clean, spherical particles that reduce oxidation and maintain a stable suspension. From our facility in Alrode, Alberton, we distribute these grades to major mining regions in Kathu, Postmasburg, Steelpoort, and Rustenburg:

  • Coarse Grade: Specifically built for Wemco drums and baths. It holds density effectively at coarser cut points and recovers cleanly with minimal losses.

  • Fine Grade: The preferred choice for cyclone duties requiring fine separation. It remains stable at lower densities and improves the recovery of fine valuables.

  • Cyclone 60 and Cyclone 40: Optimised blends designed for DMS cyclones operating at an SG between 2.8 and 3.4. These provide a balance of cut-point sharpness and recovery efficiency.

  • DMS 70: An extra-fine, specialist grade for very high-density separations (above SG 3.4). It delivers extremely sharp cut points in specialised cyclone circuits.

Plant Efficiency and Quality Assurance

Songatech provides a high-stability medium that keeps your Specific Gravity (SG) steady and your mineral yield high, shift after shift.

  • Spherical Particle Advantage: The gas-atomised spherical surface reduces contamination and oxidation, leading to lower consumption rates compared to milled alternatives.

  • Sharp Density Separation: Consistent Particle Size Distribution (PSD) ensures that density remains on target, providing predictable operating costs.

  • Rapid Recovery: Strong magnetic properties allow your magnetic separators to recover the medium quickly, minimising loss to the tailings stream.

  • Strict QA: Every batch undergoes controlled PSD testing, magnetic susceptibility checks, and chemical composition verification, supplied with a full Certificate of Analysis (COA).

Selection Guide for South African DMS Plants

Choosing the correct ferrosilicon grade depends on your target SG and the type of separation equipment used:

  • Wemco Drums and Baths: Use Coarse Grade (SG 2.7 to 3.0). It provides a stable medium for large particle separations and is easy to recover.

  • DMS Cyclones (General Duty): Fine Grade (SG 2.8 to 3.3) is recommended for a stable suspension and strong yield on fine valuables.

  • High-Accuracy Cyclones: Cyclone 40 or Cyclone 60 (SG 2.8 to 3.4) offers the best balance between sharpness of separation and recovery speed.

  • Specialised High SG Circuits: DMS 70 (SG 3.2 to 3.5+) is an ultra-fine ferrosilicon for the sharpest separation at extremely high densities.
